Granite Mountain Trail

Iron Springs Road. About 8 miles round trip with 1,700 feet of climbing to Granite Mountain Vista (7,185 feet). Real summit pursuit. Wilderness rules apply.

Spruce Mountain Trail

Senator Highway south. About 6 miles round trip with 1,200 feet to Spruce Mountain Lookout (7,693 feet). Lookout tower at the top in summer. Best fall color hike.

Pine Mountain Wilderness

About 90 minutes north of Prescott. Mineral Mesa Trail and other routes through 20,000 acres of wilderness. 6 to 12 mile routes typical.

Prescott Circle Trail sections

The 56-mile Prescott Circle Trail loops the city. Most hikers tackle 8- to 15-mile sections rather than the full loop. The west and south sections cover the most elevation.

Hassayampa River trail

Lower Bradshaws. Multi-day option. Water and shade in summer. Routes range from 8 to 20 miles.

Tips for hard hikes
