About mountain biking in Prescott AZ
Prescott Arizona is one of the most-ridden mountain-biking towns in the Southwest. The Prescott Circle Trail rings the city for 56 miles of singletrack and connects most of the named rides locals talk about. Granite Basin, the Peavine corridor at Watson Lake, and the Bradshaw Mountain ridges south of town give riders three distinct landscapes inside a 30-minute drive.
Prescott Circle Trail (the headline ride)
The Prescott Circle Trail is a 56-mile loop ringing the city, broken into named segments riders chain together. Granite Basin to Thumb Butte is the most-pedaled section. Most local riders link 8 to 18 miles of it on a typical Saturday and shuttle the longer combinations.
Granite Basin Recreation Area
Off Iron Springs Road, this is the highest-traffic mountain-biking trailhead in town. Around eight named loops branch from the main parking lot, ranging from beginner-friendly granite slabs near the lake to full Granite Mountain Trail extensions for longer days. Day-use parking fee at the trailhead.
Peavine Trail and Watson Lake area
Flat-and-fast crushed-rock multi-use trail through the Granite Dells boulder fields. The Peavine connects Watson Lake to Willow Lake on a former rail grade - a quintessential Prescott AZ ride for first-time visitors. Pairs naturally with the eBike rental that runs from this trailhead.
Bradshaw Mountain options (south of town)
Senator Highway south into the Bradshaws opens up Groom Creek Loop and the higher-elevation pine-forest singletrack networks. Cooler in summer, snowy in deep winter. Best mid-spring through late fall.
Bike rentals and shuttles
Several local shops handle full-suspension and hardtail rentals plus trail beta. The Peavine eBike rental runs daily out of the Watson Lake trailhead. Whiskey Off-Road, the city's marquee mountain-bike race, takes over downtown the first weekend of May.
